Exclusive Listing

An Exclusive Listing is a listing whereby there is only one Seller's Broker and he would market the vessel(s) / industrial equipment to both other direct buyers and shipbrokers. A commission would be due the listing broker upon closing of the sale and this generally would be split if a Buyer's Broker is involved. Under this type of listing, an owner may exclude (if desired) a number of clients from the exclusive agreement to the shipbroker.

Open Listing

An Open Listing is typically circulated with a number of shipbrokers, and the vessel(s)/industrial equipment can be marketed and sold by any of the shipbrokers or the Owners themselves. A commission would be earned by a shipbroker only if the shipbroker brought in a buyer for the vessel. If the Owner sells the vessel without any assistance from a shipbroker, there would be no commissions due. If another broker sells the vessel, then only that broker would be due a commission unless he was introduced to the vessel by another listing broker, in which case the commission would be split.

Exclusive Listings – It's a Win - Win for Both Parties

Marketing a vessel, a fleet of vessels, industrial or commercial diving equipment takes time and considerable effort. The initial marketing of the vessel, properly responding to all inquiries and distributing information to buyers must be done professionally. The request for this information is always “right now.”

An experienced shipbroker adds value through preparation of quality comprehensive information package, which is circulated to a solid and qualified network of buyers. This approach allows the client to focus on their existing business while the shipbroker manages the sale or charter process, controlling the flow of information and inquiries throughout the transaction. Additionally, a qualified shipbroker adds value by providing a “shock damper” between parties and to assist in the establishment of appropriate market values for completing a transaction.

The traditional fee or commission structure for selling or chartering vessels is on a “No Cure, No Pay Basis.” All marketing costs are to the Shipbroker's account, with the exception of specific requirements set forth by the owners, which are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

Meridian's Standard Commission and Rate Schedule

  • Vessel Sales - 5% on the initial US$ 1.0mm and 2% on the balance.
  • Vessel Charters - 2.5% of Daily Charter Rate
  • Industrial Equipment – To Be Negotiated Per Item or Block of Items
  • Desktop Appraisals – US $1200.00 per vessel
    • Upon request Meridian will provide on-site or teleconference appraisal support for banks, investors and insurance companies on behalf of party requesting appraisal at a rate of US$ 325.00/per hour.
  • Consulting – US $175.00 - $325.00 per hour.
  • All out-of-office time will be billed from the time of departure to the time of return to the office.
  • All expenses are billed at cost.
